タイトルを訳すならば「瀬戸際のパキスタン」。正直、あんまりこの辺りの事情を知りませんでした。
ビンラディンが殺害されたのがパキスタン、そもそもそこからしていろいろ問題をはらんでいる訳で。この本の冒頭はその事件の周辺、パキスタンの上層部の思惑などを描いています。後半に行くに従い、パキスタンの抱える課題がつまびらかにされて行きます。
パキスタンを語るならば隣のアフガニスタンを外せないし、アフガニスタンが出てくるならばアメリカも当然出てくるし、更には隣にはインドも中国もイランもあって、もう、いろんな人達の思惑が入り乱れていてもうこれは一筋縄ではいかないんだなーと思わざるを得ません。
パキスタンとアフガニスタンの間にはFATA(Federally Administered Tribal Areas、連邦直轄部族地域)と言うのがあるのも知らなかったです。お恥ずかしい。
